Coffee beans aren't the dark brown beans that you get in the store, but they're actually a bright green seed inside a bright red berry when they are first harvested.
Coffee is rich in antioxidants, so it can be beneficial for your health.
However, did you know that toasting the beans actually kills off the unique nutrients found in the green coffee bean extract?
Chlorogenic acid is a chemical which comes from the green coffee beans, and studies have shown that it has a number of uses:
Blocking fat from being accumulated by the body
Boosting your attempts to lose weight
Preventing your body from absorbing carbs from the food you eat
Keeping your blood sugar levels stable after eating a meal
The green coffee bean extract works in a number of ways:
It helps to burn fat -- The nutrients in the coffee bean extract will speed up your metabolism, which means that your body will burn more calories on its own.
It stops fat and carbs from being absorbed -- When you eat lots of high-carb and high fat foods, your body processes them and stores them in order to be used for later.
By stopping the carbs and fat from being absorbed by your body, you'll basically guarantee your weight loss.
It regulates your blood sugar levels -- When you eat a lot of carbs and sugar, your body processes it all and turns it into blood sugar. This causes a spike in your blood sugar levels, which means that your body has to produce more insulin in order to lower the blood sugar.
It can increase your weight loss
It can prevent fat accumulation
It's natural and has no side effects
It makes weight loss easier
Many people replace sugar with artificial sweeteners in the belief that this will reduce their calorie intake and cause weight loss. It sounds plausible. Several studies, however, have failed to show any positive effect on weight loss by consuming artificial sweeteners instead of plain sugar.
Instead, according to scientific studies, artificial sweeteners can increase appetite and maintain cravings for sweet food.
If you're having trouble losing weight you should completely avoid sweeteners.
If you burn 500 more calories than you eat every day for a week, you should lose about 1-2 pounds.
Limiting salt and starches may also mean losing more weight at first -- but that's mostly fluids, not fat.
Here are more tips from Dawn Jackson Blatner, RD, author of The Flexitarian Diet:
Eat vegetables to help you feel full.
Drink plenty of water.
Get tempting foods out of your home.
Stay busy -- you don't want to eat just because you're bored.
Eat only from a plate, while seated at a table. No grazing in front of the 'fridge.
Don't skip meals.
